Angie is still mooning over the love she has lost who has moved away when suddenly she finds herself falling for a teammate on her football team, Gabby, a police woman whom she truly admires. Surely lifetime heterosexual Gabby must have felt something too or she would not have responded as favourably as she does to Angie's show of affection. But can this momentary exchange of feelings blossom into a forever love affair?

Playing the Field was a BBC television drama series which ran for five series from 1998 - 2002 following the "on-the-field trials and tribulations and the off-the-field lives, loves and infidelities of 'The Castlefield Blues', an under funded, badly managed ladies football team from South Yorkshire in the north of England whose loyalty to the team, the game and each other far exceeds their chances of ever winning the championship.
