But all of Gro's fans, including her longtime paramour and teammate Katja Nyberg, would no doubt be quick to agree on the first two points the fellow had made. In fact, it had been Katja and Gro's romance that seemed to have empowered his words. Theirs is a love affair that has captured the hearts and imaginations of many who have chanced to learn of their relationship; and although the couple officially ended their many year long relationship on the 6th of August 2010, theirs is a story that will continue to be revered as one of the great romances of our times.

Gro Hammerseng and Katja Nyberg met through what appears to be a mutual love for a sport they have both mastered, handball. Gro has been team captain for the professional club for which she plays in Norway as well as for the national team that was sent to the 2008 Olympics. Katja, a valuable teammate, was by her side as their teams won both the 2004 and 2006 European Championships as well as the 2008 Olympic gold. Both women are a powerful presence in their own right - Gro was voted Most Valuable Player in the 2004 and 2006 European Championships and Katja the much celebrated MVP in the 2007 World Women's Handball Championship - but together the two immediately catch the eye as they are an amazing pair that has become a stirring symbol of friendship, comaraderie, teamwork and love.

Though the couple has declined to talk about their relationship openly, the affection and care that the two share is very hard to miss, and it's all been easily conveyed via the images that have been captured of them both on the court and off. One major international news source even went as far as to highlight the bonds they share in Gro Hammerseng's official biography stating that, "Hammerseng first expressed her love to Nyberg during the 2006 Championships after Norway had won the gold, and Nyberg was sitting in the stands, drawing an imaginary heart in the air directed towards her lover.
